Packers' Xavier McKinney Calls Out Bears' D.J. Moore after Viral Offseason Comments
November 14, 2024Green Bay Packers safety Xavier McKinney took offseason comments from Chicago Bears' wide receiver D.J. Moore personally.
Moore, appearing on the Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams in May, slighted McKinney and other NFC North defenders by asking "Who?" when Adams said teams in the division had "beefed up" their secondaries.
On Wednesday, ahead of the Bears and Packers' matchup on Saturday, McKinney brought up Moore's comments unprompted, per The Athletic's Matt Schneidman
"Obviously, you've got the rivalry itself, but there's a clip somewhere out there where D.J. Moore said something about … they were asking him about the Packers getting me and he was like, 'Who?'" McKinney said. "All that stuff, that's in my memory bank and I work accordingly to that.
"You know how people get before the season. They don't really know what's going to happen during the season and you just start talking too much and you don't really know what you're talking about. You're just talking."
McKinney also brought up another moment involving Moore that drew plenty of attention in the NFL world recently. In the Bears matchup with the Arizona Cardinals, Moore, while quarterback Caleb Williams scrambled to avoid a sack, walked out of bounds before the play was over rather than trying to get open. Moore justified it by saying he hurt his ankle and couldn't stop his momentum as he headed toward the sideline.
Nicholas Moreano @NicholasMoreanoDidn't notice this live, but on this extended scramble play that ended in OPI on Keenan Allen, DJ Moore took himself off the field with what looks like some kind of injury. He limped off at the end and sat on the bench. pic.twitter.com/YTnrZNDYfW
McKinney wasn't buying Moore's excuse.
"Cap," McKinney said. "That's what I say. Cap."
McKinney obviously isn't a fan of Moore or his past comments, and that will likely motivate him on Sunday as he faces off against the wide receiver.
McKinney, who spent the first four seasons of his career with the New York Giants, is off to an outstanding start with his new team. He has 42 tackles, seven passes defended and six interceptions, tied for the most in the NFL.
Moore, meanwhile, has had a slow start to the year after the best season of his career a season ago. Through nine games, he has 398 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 40 receptions.
While it's been a slow start for him so far, a budding rivalry with McKinney might lead to a big game for Moore. On the other hand, McKinney will be bringing his A-game to the contest as he looks to make things difficult for Moore.
