76ers, Pacers Updated Rosters, Starting Lineups, Salary Caps After Buddy Hield Trade
February 8, 2024
The Philadelphia 76ers are hoping to stay afloat in the Eastern Conference with Joel Embiid sidelined following knee surgery, and they made the first of a few moves expected at Thursday's deadline by reportedly landing one Indiana Pacers veteran.
Philadelphia is acquiring Buddy Hield from Indiana in exchange for Marcus Morris, Furkan Korkmaz and three second-round picks, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Here's a look at each team's updated rosters, starting lineups and salary caps following the move.
Philadelphia 76ers Roster, Starting Lineup, Salary Cap
PG: Tyrese Maxey, Patrick Beverley, Terquavion Smith
SG: Buddy Hield, Jaden Springer, De'Anthony Melton (Out injured)
SF: Tobias Harris, Kelly Oubre Jr.
PF: Nicolas Batum, KJ Martin
C: Paul Reed, Mo Bamba, Joel Embiid (Out injured)
The 76ers updated salary is worth $186.9 million, according to Spotrac.
Indiana Pacers Roster, Starting Lineup, Salary Cap
PG: Tyrese Haliburton, T.J. McConnell
SG: Andrew Nembhard, Ben Sheppard, Furkan Korkmaz
SF: Aaron Nesmith, Bennedict Mathurin, Kendall Brown
PF: Pascal Siakam, Obi Toppin, Marcus Morris, Jarace Walker
C: Myles Turner, Jalen Smith, Isaiah Jackson, Oscar Tshiebwe
The Pacers updated salary is $142.7 million, according to Spotrac.
Hield is in the final year of a four-year contract and is earning $19.2 million this season. The Athletic's Shams Charania reported in September that Hield and the Pacers began searching for a trade partner after extension talks stalled.
The 31-year-old is having a down year by his standards with his role diminished on a deep Indiana roster. He's averaging 12.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists through 52 games while shooting 44.3 percent from the floor and 38.4 percent from deep.
However, three-point shooting has been an issue for the Sixers this season. Philadelphia ranks 25th in the NBA in three-point attempts per game (31.4) and the team is knocking down just 11.3 three-pointers per game, which ranks 27th in the league.
Hield has long been known for his ability to knock down shots from range—he's shooting 40.1 percent from deep in his career—so he'll be a welcomed addition in Philadelphia.
However, the acquisition might not mean much with Embiid sidelined for an extended period of time following knee surgery.
Philadelphia is 1-3 in its last four games without the reigning MVP and sits fifth in the Eastern Conference with a 30-20 record. While the team is hoping to avoid the play-in tournament, that might be a tough task at this point in the season with Embiid on the shelf.
The Pacers made their big deadline acquisition last month by acquiring Pascal Siakam from the Toronto Raptors and pairing him with Tyrese Haliburton and Myles Turner. Morris and Korkmaz will be solid depth additions to an already deep rotation.
Indiana is sixth in the Eastern Conference with a 29-23 record and is fighting to hold onto a top-six seed in an effort to avoid the play-in tournament and clinch a playoff berth for the first time since the 2019-20 campaign.
