Video: Caitlin Clark Talks 2025 WNBA All-Star Game, 'Excited' for Fever to Host Event
August 17, 2024
Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark is excited for the WNBA All-Star Game to arrive in Indianapolis next year.
Clark made her remarks during pregame availability prior to Indiana's home game against the Phoenix Mercury on Friday evening (conversation begins at seven-minute mark).
"Oh gosh no...I'll be hiding," a smiling Clark said in response to a question about whether she was ready to carry the torch for the All-Star Game, a la the Indiana Pacers' Tyrese Haliburton, who said he felt like the "mayor" for the NBA's version in Indianapolis last February.
"I'm just happy I'll be able to sleep in my own bed if I'm lucky enough to be an All-Star again. I would not have to sleep in a hotel room, not have to travel. I think that's what I'm most excited about."
"But honestly, I'm really happy for our organization and our franchise and the city of Indianapolis. I think it's a testament how they've supported us to begin the year and the first 26 games. We've had a ton of fans on the road, a ton of fans every single game at home it's been sold out. You can just feel the buzz and excitement, so I don't think there was a better place for the All-Star Game to go next year. I think everybody knew that..."
Indiana leads the WNBA in attendance with 16,898 fans per game as Clark, the reigning two-time consensus national collegiate player of the year, leads the way.
Given how the team's popularity has exploded since Clark's arrival, it only makes sense for the WNBA to take advantage of that and have the league's showcase event in Indianapolis. This also marks the first time the WNBA All-Star Game, which began in 1999, has been held in the city.
The 2025 WNBA All-Star Game will go down on Saturday, July 19 in Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
