At least two Opening Day games across Major League Baseball will be postponed from Thursday until Friday.

Both the Milwaukee Brewers vs. New York Mets and Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies matchups will be pushed back a day due to inclement weather:

According to ABC News, a major storm is coming to the East Coast over the next two days that is expected to run from the Carolinas to Maine on Thursday, while flood watches have gone into effect from Florida to Virginia. Up north, the heaviest rains are expected from the Jersey shore up to Long Island and the eastern parts of New England and will continue through Thursday night.

Thirteen other games are still on schedule for Opening Day, however, with 24 teams making their season debuts. The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres already split the two-game Seoul Series that officially kicked off the 2024 MLB season.

For the Phillies, at least, the postponement will impact their plans for the starting rotation to start the season.

According to Matt Gelb of The Athletic, the Phillies "had planned to start Zack Wheeler in the first and fifth games of the season—something they could do with the scheduled off day. That would allow Spencer Turnbull, a late addition to the rotation, to throw in one more sim game to increase his pitch count. The plan was to start Turnbull in the sixth game of the season."

Those plans will now have to be adjusted, though manager Rob Thomson told reporters the other week that the team has "a backup plan."

It will also delay the much-anticipated rematch between the Phillies and Braves, after the former eliminated Atlanta from the postseason last year for the second straight season, emerging as one of the better rivalries in the sport.
